What do I do if there is an active shooter?
An incident with an active shooter is highly unlikely, but such an emergency is highly stressful. It is important to keep as calm as possible in order to make the most rational decisions for yourself and others. Please watch the following four-minute training video.

- Run
- Leave your personal belongings behind
- Get out of the area as quickly as possible
- Help others escape if possible
- Keep hands visible and empty
- Encourage others not to enter
- Hide
- Stay out of sight and stay quiet
- Turn off the lights
- Secure nearby doors if possible
- Find improvised weapons
- Find a safe location and stay there until you are told to evacuate
- Fight
- If you have no other choice, fight the attacker with the weapons you have available
- Attempt to incapacitate the shooter
- Do not attempt to handle an unfamiliar firearm
How do I best prepare myself?
- Always have an emergency plan for the building you are in
- Know the location of emergency exits, light switches, and closets
- Door wedges can be used in reverse to secure a non-locking door
What are the warning signs of a potential active shooter?
- Behavior may suddenly change
- Making disturbing statements or threats
- Giving hints that they are planning something
